Well, I honestly doubt that is the whole story. It's not his fault the Grey Wardens embraced his state religion because he was so awesome in their eyes. Celene strikes me more as the one who tries to expand by marriage (that thing with Cailan) or cultural hegenomy. Perhaps, but you can't deny his achievement alone makes him stood above other Orlesians like Celene "YOLO party" Valmont.
